The OfficeInstructor is 1 of 3 Microsoft authorized testing centers in the GTA for Microsoft Office Specialist (“MOS”) exams and certifications. Founded by Nabil Mourad in 2011; Headquartered in Toronto – Canada.
I am Nabil Mourad, I am an Excel enthusiast and a Microsoft MVP (Most Valuable Professional). I work as a professor of Business Computer Applications at George Brown College in Toronto. I also deliver Corporate Training at client site or Remotely. My primary areas of Teaching are Data analytics, automation and visualization, as well as the Microsoft Office suite.
I am most passionate about teaching, in particular teaching technology. In 2003 I earned my first Master Instructor Certificate and since 2008 I was recognized as a Microsoft Certified Trainer to date. For over 12 years, I have found my dream job passing on my passion for teaching technology.
My earlier degrees are not in technology, but in life science and medicine. My generation did not grow up with computers, but I did after graduating from university. Technology has been one of my passions from relatively young age when I used to go to a business center near home in the 1980’s to have them edit my lectures on an Apple computer. I was fascinated by how this device can polish my documents and wished to own one and learn how to do it myself.
I owned my first computer in 1992 and started to learn Basic programming and Office 3.0 (later rebranded as Office 92). With the release of Office 97 I started to seriously leverage my skills then earned my first Certification as Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS) Master in Office 2000 (which later changed to MOS). It was signed by Bill Gates and I considered it a personal welcome message! Since then, I kept upgrading my skills getting the MOS Master Certification in all releases of Microsoft Office.
When I created my first YouTube channel for teaching MS Office, I tried to engage my audience and help them remember what I teach them by using Mind Map techniques. I am in love with Mind Maps. I use them to generate, visualize, structure, and classify ideas in maps and diagrams. Mind Maps proved to be an efficient aid in study, organization, problem solving, decision making, and memorization of concepts.
Microsoft Office is a tool. All of your competitors will have learned Microsoft Office to some degree or another. Some will have learned it to an advanced level. Knowing Microsoft Office is important, but it is also fundamental. Without it, you will not be considered for a position.
In the past few years, we entered the era of big data, which also grabbed my interest and I kept developing myself in these areas until I earned my MBA with a major in Data Analytics and Visualization. Thinking of a pool of applications interacting with each other and getting the best out of each one drives my desire to learn more and teach better.
How I Measure Success
Finally, I believe that if you want edge over the competition, make it personal. Capitalizing on your passion leads to success. In today’s world, competition is global. Skills can help set you apart, but passion will help you stand above. I learned that Success doesn’t come from what we do occasionally, It comes from what we do consistently.
“I was impressed with the wide variety of classes offered at the “Office Instructor” Center. The flexibility of morning, afternoon or evening sessions made it possible to learn after work . Also Weekend courses made going “back to school” easier than I expected.. I’m glad a friend recommended this.”Bradley Grosh
“Our Instructor Nabil Mourad is the best instructor I have had to date. He is extremely knowledgeable and explains everything in a way that makes sense. He does not continually use technical terms, but uses everyday experience wording to explain. He provided us with invaluable quick tips and shortcuts. I have used Excel extensively, and I didn’t know most of what he showed us.”Susan Beaton - Canada Post Ontario
“I was always challenged when it came to taking tests. Everything else clicked, but I had terrible scores at recruiting agencies online tests. I took a few test preparations classes at “The Office Instructor” center and my scores have really improved. Thanks for helping me.”John McCoist
“Nabil was an amazing instructor. I’m genuinely impressed with his sheer amount of knowledge and strong teaching skills. Today was an amazing learning experience. Nabil is definitely the best instructor I’ve had so far. Thank you again Nabil”Lorena Eduardo - York Region Ontario
“Nabil Mourad is a natural born instructor… in fact the most informed and knowledgeable instructor in any course that I have attended over the last several years. He not only is a master of the material – he also is very perceptive to the principles of adult learning and can quickly adjust to meet the interests of his audience. I would highly recommend him for future courses and in fact will be recommending this course to staff in my branch and specifically requesting him as the instructor. He is Triple AAA+++ “Judy Stamp - Ministry of the Attorney General Ontario
